Our little guy needs your help. He received this spunky goldfish on Valentine’s Day from his Grandmama, but we haven’t decided on a name yet. We considered the obvious holiday-related name, Val, but it’s just not working for me. Not sure of the gender, but I think he’s a he. If you’re so inclined, post a comment and name that fish. (If you are an email subscriber, you can post a comment by clicking on the “comment” link at the end of the email message. This will bring you to the website where you will be able to type in your comment.)
There is a handmade prize in the offing for the person whose comment is picked from a random drawing. I can’t tell you what that prize will be exactly, but I will try to take the winner’s tastes into consideration. For those of you cruising the internet in far-off places, I will ship wherever you are, so don’t be strangers. I will keep this silly little contest open for a week and will draw a name the evening of Monday, March 10.
Thanks for the fish, Grandmama! We love our first family pet.
**********UPDATE************
Our fish now has a name! We decided to go with Creamsicle. Congrats to the “C Girls”, who named the fish, and Barbara, who won the random drawing. I will get to work on those prizes and be in touch.
There is this absolutely old and gorgeous movie with the daughter of Tony Curtis and the name of the movie is “A fish named Wanda” – so Wanda would be my preference. Don’t attach it to a gender, I bet the fish won’t actually care. Besides, Wanda is easy to pronounce and easy to remember.
Have fun with your first family pet. Best, Elke
Here is Goose’s vote: Nemo. 🙂
Muzi – after Valentine Muscato OA Legend…and Creighton Herlihy legend.
What ever you pick I’m glad you are enjoying him.
I like the name Gus.
This opportunity is too good to pass up! Memories of Jeremy – our son’s goldfish who lived to the ripe old age of somewhere between 3 and 4 years old… No matter what indignity he was subjected to he lived on, and on and on. . . Actually I think your little guy’s new pet is Jeremy incarnated – bless him! He will never die! (But my name is up against some stiff competition – especially Wanda. That name should put a smile on everyone’s face! Shall wait with baited (pardon the – – – ) breath for the decision! Barbara
Hi there fish family!
Just off the top of my head, I’m goin’ with “pamplemousse” It’s french for grapefruit, but it’s such a funny word.
Good luck to the fish!
Mary
Sam. We named all our dogs Sam growing up. Why not a fish??
My suggestion is Ferdinand. We had goldfish growing up and since they don’t live forever, we had Ferdinand the First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth and so on. I think all of our little Ferdy fishies enjoyed the name!
Our first goldfish was named Goldie. He lived for 8 years. When he died my son buried him in my flower garden. He made a rock as his head stone. The rock after 8 more years is still in the garden. Ahhh First Pets. Kristi
My vote is Pomme-Pomme. First, it pays tribute to the little guy’s French roots. Second, it goes along with the name of this blog. Third, it’s fun to say. And finally, apples are delicious, and it kinda looks like a certain someone in the photo thinks that fish looks yummy! (Though he probably just thinks that Mr. Pomme-Pomme-to-be is neat.) Yay pets!
How about SUSHI?
our fish, may he rip, was called swimmy. it fit our little fish for the 11 days he was with us. 🙂
The girls thought of two names for your new pet
“Bubbles” or “Creamsicle” good luck!!
me encanta la foto con el pececito, que lindo
I received an email suggesting the name Derf. Thanks everyone for the great names!
A good name for the fish would be ” Digger ” as in gold digger
